Arts & Culture
Elliot Lake has a vibrant arts community representing many aspects of the arts including visual arts, music, dance, theatre, cultural sponsorships, and public service. The local Arts Council has some 30 groups under its umbrella and the Civic Centre is the focal point from which the local Arts Council operates. Located in the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre are several facilities including a Potters Studio an Arts Club room with 7 floor looms, 1 tapestry loom, printmaking and stained glass equipment as well as space for painting. Workshops in various media are taking place all the time and an Arts Council membership brings with it a discount on workshops, entertainment as well as discounts at some local arts-minded businesses. Many local artists also work from their own studios, however these individuals most often participate in the public shows and events, as well as exhibiting in out-of-town shows and galleries.
The highly successful Elliot Lake Entertainment Series is the foremost presenter of performing arts in the community. This organization sponsors Canadian performers and offers a series of four or more shows per season. Many famous performers have been brought to Elliot Lake including: Buffy Sainte-Marie, John McDermott, Quaretto Gelato, George Fox, Liona Boyd, Sylvia Tyson, Forever Plaid... to name a few.
Many other performances also take place in Elliot Lake, which may not be put on by the Entertainment Series including such acts as Frank Mills and many other performing arts.
